Acrylic Door Sign

Image
My wife became a fully qualified consultant at the start of last year but she's finally got a permanent job and settled into an office now. She showed me the A4 printout stuck on her office door displaying her name which was probably a subtle nudge that I should be making her a better sign. This is made from 3mm Duo Perspex bought from Kitronik . It's a very thin layer of metallic gold acrylic on top of black acrylic so you can cut through the top layer and expose the black underneath it. Perfect for making these kinds of signs. I've just used some of my strongest double sided tape on the back because I'm sure someone will complain about holes in the door for any other fixing method. Hopefully it will last a while. With a new job in a hospital 45 mins away, this means moving the whole family to a different town (as alluded here before), but that also means a double garage/bigger workshop for me. I've got plans to release more laser cut designs and once we've s...

First place trophy

Image
Here is the first place trophy for the war gaming competition. The trophies were all handed out yesterday which means I can show this today. I outsold myself, stretched the budget and spent a lot of time making a trophy as good as I could. The wings are made from wood veneers and are a remake of a previous item . The laurel wreath was redone with each leaf as a separate piece of 0.8mm ply. The wooden spoon was bought from the shop. The rounded base is a variation on my useless machine  and the plaque made from silver/black engraving laminate. The ribbon across the middle is two layers and engraved onto 1.5mm walnut.

War Gaming Trophies

Image
So what was I squeezing out of yesterdays material , these 4 war gaming trophies. I've used a layered effect to turn the logo into a 3D trophy, the plaque is cut from silver/black HIPS and built onto a 6mm poplar base to make them stand upright. The keen eyed amongst you may notice that trophies are for 2nd and 3rd places, there is a fancier trophy for 1st place but I promised to keep that under wraps until the 12th December when the tournament is held.

NWSPK Chalkboard Erasers

Image
In what feels like an eternity ago and delays entirely of my own making I ran these logo tests  for newspeak house . Well tonight I finally got round to cutting 25 of the silver logos to be stuck on the back of chalkboard erasers, I think they'll add a nice little bit of class in a time when chalk boards just don't receive as much love as they used to.

Captain's Log?

Image
Star trek style Com badges for a group of friends who were also going to be playing Artemis. Instead of pretending to be Humans of Earth, they were the Citizens of Klunge and they have rather interesting shaped space ships. Maybe the next time you see the crew of the TNG ejecting their warp core at the last possible moment you'll have a little chuckle too :)

Logo Samples

Image
I was trying out some logo styles for Newspeak house , I personally like the copper on black with the vine details done in a low power cut and a close second as the same in wood but then I'm a stickler for fancy wood.

Front Door Sign

Image
I was walking home from school with one of the other parents, she was complaining that people didn't know where her front door was and keep going round the side of the house. 10 minutes later I returned with a sign for her, 250mm long and engraved from HIPS plastic so it's weatherproof. Lasers are awesome.

More White Knight

Image
My black on white, laser engraving laminate finally arrived so I could sit down and do some more of the White Knight Designs . As a game of thrones fan these two really caught my eye and it was good fun putting them through the laser cutter last night. Jordan  has been great about sending me higher resolution artwork than I can steal from Facebook so I cut them in duplicate and will be sending the second set in his direction. In the meantime don't forget about my attempt to jump start my Carcassonne set file release .

A quick little job for Serenity LRP which is happening in 2 weeks time.
